AMC Central Europe’s Streaming Growth Story

From Local Launch to Regional Expansion

When AMC Global Media Central Europe introduced its streaming service in Hungary, it marked an important step beyond linear television and into direct-to-consumer distribution.

What began as a national streaming service quickly evolved into a broader regional strategy, designed to grow beyond a single market while maintaining a consistent, premium experience across every screen.

It marked the beginning of a broader plan to build a pan-regional streaming presence.

The service launched with more than 1,800 hours of premium content, spanning movies, series, exclusive sports, culinary and educational programming, and family entertainment. Available across web, mobile, and TV apps, it established a strong digital presence from day one.

“SELEKT gives viewers on-demand access to premium content, anytime, anywhere, while strengthening our position in the market. The response has been incredibly strong, with thousands of new subscribers every week already exceeding our initial expectations.”

- Levente B. Málnay, Managing Director and EVP at AMC Global Media Central Europe

The Shift: From Launch to Expansion

In 2024, AMC Global Media Central Europe partnered with Applicaster to launch its first streaming apps in Hungary, successfully delivering a high-quality, multi-screen experience to its audience.

That initial rollout was more than a market entry. It created a strong technological foundation designed to support long-term growth.

With that foundation in place, AMC was able to shift its focus from launch execution to regional expansion.

Expanding Beyond the First Market

Rather than treating each new territory as a standalone project, the team approached growth as a natural extension of the original build.

The streaming service is now preparing to launch in Czech Republic and Slovakia in Q2 2026, marking the next step in its regional evolution.

The Solution: A Foundation Built to Scale

Applicaster’s Zapp platform plays a critical role in making this possible.

Its shared, modular architecture simplifies the complexity of scaling across devices and markets while preserving a consistent, premium user experience.

Instead of rebuilding apps for each new region, AMC Global Media Central Europe can efficiently adapt the existing framework to localize content, adjust distribution strategies, and meet market-specific requirements.

Operational Impact: Faster Expansion, Less Complexity

Managing web, mobile, and connected TV apps within a unified environment reduces operational overhead and accelerates rollout timelines.

This streamlined approach enables AMC Global Media Central Europe to expand confidently into new territories without duplicating development efforts or compromising performance.

From the beginning, the service was built to operate seamlessly across iOS, Android, web, and smart TVs, ensuring audiences could engage wherever they prefer to watch.

“Working with Applicaster has given us the flexibility to think beyond a single market. We were able to launch across platforms from the start, and now we can extend that experience into new territories without starting from scratch. That scalability has been critical to our regional growth.”

- Csaba Szaniszló, VP of Ad Sales and Digital at AMC Global Media Central Europe.
